Rationale

My topic for this assignment was the weekend markets and with this I wanted to communicate the emotive qualities of each market. The consideration of the FDPs drove my finals into something that I believe communicates the idea of each location and leads the reader through the brochure. I applied the use of grids to make sure that the headings and text were aligned throughout the brochure and corresponded well with the illustrations.

For the Friday market I tried to communicate the energy I felt while being there by the use of colour and pattern. For the Saturday market I found that the underground was quite a low lit environment that was lit primarily with secondary desk lamps which gave it quite an intimate feeling.

I decided to keep the chalkboard background consistent throughout the brochure despite it not working all that well for the Sunday market as it is quite the opposite of a dark colour palette, however I think it works well to contrast against the bright colours of the fruit and vege and correlates with the market theme of writing on chalkboards. Unfortunately it took me longer than it should have to find a style and stick with and drive the rest of the process because of this my finals were somewhat rushed and I feel like they could have been slightly better given time. However overall I am very pleased with the outcome and I look forward to rest of the assignment now that I have a clear style that I know can be developed.

Saturday Market - 28/3/15

Friday Market - 27/3/15

Went back to the night market tonight to gather the last little bit of information to create a 'notable stalls' page for my last spread.

I picked the takoyaki stand and decided to illustrate this in the same heavy vector based design

Week Five - Session Two

Today we had one on one critiques with the tutors, this was effective to clear up any areas that were missed in the group critiques yesterday.
In particular i was told to push my designs to better represent the emotive qualities of each market.

Week Five - Session One

Today we had a group critique where we hung our two variations of our final spreads on the wall and went through a formal marking criteria sheet which helped us to understand what was and wasnt working with our spreads, from this we were able to move forward with the particular spread that was the better of the two.

At the end of the class we were told to start researching printing places
for this I have decided to go to "Ink" on Marion Street
